Lightroom Workflow Video
Editing

I was asked in the Ask Me Anything section if I could show you my workflow. I made an extremely long and boring video (17 minutes) for y’all :O) Two things: 1. I meant to say my pictures are saved to my external hard drive, not my hard drive and 2. That crazy loud sound in the background half way through is my AC :O)

There are probably better ways to do your editing but this is what I do. So grab a cup of coffee and some popcorn and enjoy!! :O)

I noticed in your vid that you deleted a ton of pix, most of the pix that you deleted are VERY good and VERY salvageable. And you can do it all in Lr3. I tell ALL my fellow photographers “NEVER DELETE PHOTOS.” Give me a buzz and i’ll show you how.

Thanks! I don’t delete them because I think they aren’t good, I just delete them because I don’t need that many :O)

Just re-watched it and realized I said the “bad” ones, I should have just said the ones I don’t like :O) Oops!! Sorry for the confusion!!

Haha I always delete tons of pictures and my husband has never deleted a picture in his life. It’s a source of tension in our marriage ;-) And thanks for the numbers, Gerry!

Lightroom tutorial number one! LOL I just opened LR and was like OMG… I could so get lost in here…

  • July 30, 2011 at 2:33 AM

I am SO glad I watched this… I have a ton from our trip to Rome and this really is going to save me so much time. I didn’t know you could synch your changes. And the cropping! THANK YOU… I hate it when I crop a photo then find if I upload to shutterfly it stretches to meet the dimensions… I played with it today – a Tattoo photo of my daughter, used the rounded corner tips and a preset. FUN…

    Hi Courtney!
I have a question…it was a little blurry to see in the video…
When you export from LR, what types of files do you export as? do you export two times-once for screen.computer and once for print?? Also, where do you export your photos? External drive? It sounded like you said the same folder as the original…is that your internal drive?

Thanks so much for the help! :) I love your blog!!!!!

Sorry the video was blurry! I have noticed that and need to find a new program to record :O)

Yes, I export a web version and a print version. I keep all my photos on an external hard drive. Yes, I keep them in the same folder as the orginal but have subfolders – 1 web and 1 print. Have you seen this post on how I organize my photos?? – http://www.clickitupanotch.com/2011/05/organizing-your-photos/

Wonderful video!! I learned how to do the batch editing and sync. Quik question, since you shoot in RAW. When you export them to your “print” file does it convert them to JPEG?

    Thanks!
    Candice
