Documenting Your Photography Journey
Lifestyle

There are a couple of reasons I really wanted to co-host the current linky of showing off your Top 5 photos of your kiddos/pets. I wanted to share one of those reasons today!

For those of you who are on a journey to improve your photography this is a great way to document your growth. You are picking your top 5 photos. This probably means that you think they are pretty good photos, besides just being adorable photos of your kids. What better way to show off your growth!! Just imagine where your photography will be by December! You will look back at those photos and be able to see how you have improved. Don’t get me wrong, you will still LOVE those photos because you love them now and if your kids are in them it’s hard not to love them. You can just appreciate even more all the hard work you did this year!

I have been shooting on manual for a little over a year and a half and still love to look back at my older pictures. My journey is NO WHERE near from over! I love to see photos that I used to think was probably the best photo I had ever taken and see that I have improved :O)

So besides getting to show off your kids and be entered to win two fabulous prizes, consider picking your top 5 photos so you can start documenting your journey! You will have all your best photos in one post for you to look back on :O)

Here is a photo I took of Kate one year ago (March 2010). It was my favorite! Besides her looking adorable I thought it was great! I have learned a lot since I took this picture. If I were to critique it I would tell myself: The photo is a little underexposed and a little cool. I shouldn’t have cut off her hands. I didn’t know ANYTHING about editing a year ago. I now have the skills to improve this photo in PPing :O)

Here is a photo I took yesterday (March 2011) of Emma. What an improvement! I know so much more about composition, white balance, exposure, and editing!

I hope you decide to link up to our Top 5 photos so over the course of the year I can follow along on your journey :O) Click HERE to find out more!

What is one way you have seen your photos improve???

Isn’t amazing what a year makes. Great job. I might have to do a post like this. Very cool. :D

Great post! I got my DSLR in August last year and at the beginning of this year I put together a photo book of my best/favourite shots from the first 5 months of having my camera, one because I love them all and I was so proud of them and two, so I can compare it when I do the same at the end of this year :D
I can already see a big improvement, mainly because I’m shooting in Manual now, yay! But I still have to work out lighting and white balance and master the focus on my 50mm f/1.8 (the kids move around too quick for me lol!)

The photos of your girls are gorgeous by the way!

I am glad you posted with the links to the basics. I will be sending this one to a few friends who have asked me to give them a hand.

I couldn’t agree more. I look I photos I took a year ago, that I thought were AWESOME (then and they were according to my skill level), but now I realize they were underexposed with various exposure/composure issues. I hope a year from now I will look back and think the same thing about the photos I am taking now.

For me the biggest thing has been to read things online, see different kinds of work and then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!

You’re so right – this process is a journey and while I’m no where near where I want to be. Each day I learn something different!

I didn’t even really think about that when choosing my photos, but it will definitely be cool to see how I’ve improved in a year!!
