How to display photos in an office

Deciding how to display photos in our office was simple as soon as I saw these white shelves at IKEA. They were perfect for what I wanted. My husband and I share an office so we worked together to find a happy medium between what I wanted (a feminine space) and what he wanted (a place to display all his baseball paraphernalia).

You know I’m a huge believer in printing your images. Don’t let them live on your computer! Print those puppies! If you don’t want to put them on your walls at least print them in digital books and/or photo albums.

Let’s break down how to display your photos

1. Prints
I ordered some of my favorite prints from my photo lab. I had the lab mount them on 1/8″ styrene to make them thick and stand on their own. The images range in size. I have five 16×24 and and three 12×18. The great thing about this display is I was able to add to it over time. It took me several months to get the photos printed since it isn’t cheap when you have them mounted. However, I love them! I love that over time I can add and remove images.

2. RIBBA Picture ledge
These shelf ledges are only $9.99 so I was able to get 3 without breaking the bank.

3. Apple iMac – 21.5 inch Desktop
This is where I do all my editing. Although, I love working on my laptop in front of the TV at nap time, when it comes to editing, I like to do it at my desk with my calibrated monitor.

4. Goodwill lamps.
My husband is the best at finding steals at Goodwill. He snatched these two lamps up for a couple of dollars. I realize that doesn’t do you any good if you are looking for something similar, so I wanted to let you know, I found some similar at Target a while back.

5. iRobot Roomba for Pets
I don’t like to vacuum or clean for that matter. The Roomba is my best friend. The biggest headache is convincing the kids to pick up their toys so the Roomba can do it’s job. It’s so nice to be able to edit photos while vacuuming ;)

6. ALEX Drawer Unit
We used two of these drawers to help stabilize the top of the desk. I love the versatility of the desks at IKEA. We were able to pick and choose the end units.

7. Office chairs.
I get asked all the time where I got these chairs. We bought them when we lived in Japan. Sorry.

8. ALEX Storage Unit
Again, another piece of the desk system. Love being able to throw our junk in these.

Thanks! It was a challenge and the wall behind the desks is covered with baseball stuff but it works for us :)

Just curious because I am new with printing, what kind of prints are shown. They seems to be stronger then then the poster prints that I have in the larger size.
    Thanks :)

Yes, they are mounted on styrene 1/8″. You can get that done at professional labs.

Do you still use Color Inc for your lab? I want to get some styrene prints for our room and they had the best price (about $20 for a 20×20), but I don’t know anyone who has printed through them before. Thanks :)

    Nice, neat, clean!
So envious! Wish I could be so organized. Point taken about the printing – the absolute last straw was when my wife said she wanted to go out and buy some prints to put up around the house… hello-o-o… I have a few thousand photographs … in a hard disk…
    Nuf said!

I love it! We hand built similar style shelves (museum shelves) for our living room. They are easy to change photos in and out without damaging walls. It’s awesome!

    Hi!
I love all the hints/tips that you share. Once in a great while, I actually take a decent photo that I really like! LOL

I was interested in all the IKEA products that you used. I cannot figure out which desk you purchased. I understand how the add on’s work, but the desk I saw had two drawers in the front. Any further advice that you can give me?

    Thank you!

I wish I knew exactly what the desk was called. We got it two years ago. I’m pretty sure they still have it.
