Letters to Our Children – April 2013
Lifestyle

I am a part of another blog circle, what can I say they are fun and encourage me to shoot for myself. In this circle, we write a letter to our children once a month. I decided to use these letters as lessons and things I want my girls to learn. Plus, I have a goal to take a photo of all three of my girls together each month. That is a challenge in its self.

Dear sweet girls,

Today is Mama and Daddy’s anniversary. That means 9 years ago today, Mama and Daddy looked into each other’s eyes and said before God and our family and friends that we would love and cherish each other for the rest of our lives.

There will come a day when you start dating, hopefully about 30 years from now. Ha! There are so many things I want to teach you about choosing boys to date and one to marry.

Choose wisely.

Find a Godly man.

Date someone who will treat you right. Hold the door open for you. Pay for dinner.

Don’t kiss on the first date.

Be picky.

Don’t change for a guy. Don’t change for anyone, for that matter.

Find someone who makes you laugh.

It is normal to want to spend all your time with your boyfriend, but don’t. Continue to hang out with your friends and fantastic family.

Make sure he treats his mother well.

Don’t date someone one of your sisters dated.

Watch how Daddy treats me, find someone who treats you as well.

You don’t need a boyfriend to be complete.

Choose someone you respect.

Never settle. Ever.

When I asked Daddy what advice he would give you on dating, he said “Don’t”.

I have been blessed to be loved and be the wife of your Daddy. He is the most amazing man and father. I respect him greatly. I thank God every night for choosing him to be my husband. I pray for you and your future husband. It will be hard for Daddy and me when you start to date but I know you girls will choose wisely.

I love you,
Mama

What a great idea Courtney! Such wisdom in your letter to your girls and a letter that I am sure they will always cherish. My kids are grown, one is already married and he and his wife are expecting their first child in October, my first grandchild! I just might start writing letters to my grandchild!

Courtney, what a wonderful idea to write letters to your girls EVERY month (and also to have support from a circle of friends, as well). Great advice!

    Happy Anniversary!

I loved this! I also love how Kate is morphing into a little Ian. That’s the same face he makes in pictures too. :)

Such a great idea to give advice. You will have to read this again to them when they they are dating age. They will love it! Happy Anniversary! This post really says a lot about the type of man Ian is. Sounds like you scored big time! :)
