Dear Sweet Girls,

I recently read an article about how people talk to girls. It stated how most of the time the first thing people say to girls is a compliment on how they look or are dressed. I am guilty of this and have found 99% of the time so are everyone you meet. However, I don’t want you to place your self value in how you look.

Your worth is not tied to the clothes you wear or how you look that day. You are smart girls who have opinions. People are drawn to you for what you have to say and your heart, not your looks.

You are creative. Continue to use your imaginations, play “venus fly trap” and all the other crazy games you invent. You are creative little children.

You are determined. Work hard and don’t give up. I have watched each of you struggle to learn a new task of some sort and your determination has shined through. Don’t let that fade as you get older. Studies show girls sometimes hide what they are capable of in front of boys. Don’t do this! If someone is intimidated by what you can do then you don’t need them in your life.

You are smart. Read everyday. Don’t stop asking questions (unless it’s “why?” to me for the 87th time). You are bright young children who are going to shine!

You have opinions. Feel free to express your opinion when in a conversation. Unless it’s a rude thought, then keep that to yourself.

You are strong. Not only physically but emotionally. Over the course of your childhood, you will move more than some people move. You will make new friends.

You are kind. I have watched how you care for each other and love your friends. Your heart is incredible.

So please remember, next time someone tells you how cute you are that there is so much more to you than your looks.

I love you,
Mommy

Great letter with great advice for those sweet girls!! They are indeed beautiful.. and I’m sure it’s inside-out. I like the advice about opinions. One of Jacob’s favorite books is “Being Frank.” I think you and your girls would enjoy it :)
