A Photographer’s Christmas Wish List

Share this with your friends! Thanks!

Last year I did a post – Photography Christmas Wish List. I thought it would be fun to keep up the tradition and create another list this year.

These are either items I want personally or already own and think you would love them as well :O)

Stocking Stuffers:

Extra Battery
– This is definitely on my list. Have you ever found yourself about to walk out the door only to figure out your battery has one bar left? How about when you have been our shooting your heart out and realize your battery is drained. Get an extra one!

Through the Lens -Camera Necklace- I have been eyeing this necklace for months! Isn’t it a beauty! It’s such a nice simple necklace to display something you love.

Clickin’ Moms Membership – As I have mentioned time and time again, this is such an amazing forum based website! I learned so much from these talented photographers. By becoming a member you get access to tons of information as well as being able to sign up for workshops before nonmembers! This is definitely a must for anyone wanting to learn more about photography.

E-books – If you don’t have time for a workshop, then an ebook is the next best thing. I have found that Clickin’ Moms has some of the best ebooks! I just purchased the “It’s Your Atmosphere” a few weeks back. It is awesome! There are lots of ebooks out there but I have found CM’s to be some of the best!

Under the Tree:
External Hard Drive
– Please, oh please, tell me you already have your photos backed up. But if by the off chance you don’t, why not ask for an external hard drive so you can save all those precious memories you spent hours capturing?

Tamron 18-270mm 3.5-6.3 – If you are planning a trip in 2012 you really shouldn’t leave home without this lens. In fact, even if you don’t have a trip planned, you really can’t go wrong with a lens that covers so much focal length. Just image how much lighter your bag will be when you are able to leave home with one lens that can do so much instead of packing 3 or more lenses. You can read more about the Tamron 18-270mm here.

Scott Kelby’s Digital Photography Boxed Set 1, 2, and 3 – These are fantastic photography books. I have the first two and read them in one sitting.
They are full of some many useful ideas and great tips.

Lightroom 3
– I realized I listed this one last year but I can’t tell you enough how much easier your life with be with Lightroom. Lightroom was the first and only editing program that I completely understand. It’s extremely user friendly! (Which is on sale by the way!!!)

I’ll take all the above from your list Courtney! One can never have too many batteries! And I don’t need another external hard drive..but maybe a backup for my backup would be nice. :)

I really want this for Christmas this year…and if I don’t get it, it will be a New Year’s present to myself hehe!

Oh, I LOVE Kelly Moore Bags! They were on my list last year :O) I have the Classic, B-Hobo, and Libby! Let me know if you just love the JuJu when you get it :O)

I would highly suggest 2 x externals. I just had one randomly die on me, practically brand new, luckily I had bought 2 for the extra security, I can’t imagine if I hadn’t. Shudder!

    • December 8, 2011 at 8:57 AM

Oh, that is terrible it crashed but great that you had it backed up! Phew!!! I have 2 externals too and am in the process of backing up with Backblaze! Can never be too safe :O)

Your list is pretty much my entire list! An extra battery, the Tamron lens, LR3, CM membership, external hard drive. And that necklace wasn’t on my list, but it is now! :) I also have a 50mm lens and a macro lens on my list. Hoping I get at least ONE of the things on my list! :)

I want a speedlite& a telephoto lens. Also a Kelly Moore bag desperately. I also want a puppy. And yes, that counts as a photography wish because then I can photograph him in all his cuteness ;)

    I really need extra batteries.

  • December 8, 2011 at 2:44 PM

I like a lot of the those things on your list! The necklace is so pretty and the lens, external hard drive, and extra battery would be great to have!!

I had this lens on my Christmas wish list:

…but that Tamron lens has me wondering which would be best? Any suggestions between the two?

I would also like this lens:

I have been curious about LR for sometime now. I have PhotoShop CS5, and it is so confusing and difficult. I have thought about buying Photoshop Elements in hopes for something simpler and more user friendly. You prefer LR over Elements?

And lastly… I would like to put a camera remote on my Christmas list. It seems more convenient than using the timer? Any suggestions here?

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I am always learning something here! You helped kick me off of “auto” mode and onto “manual”!

    • December 9, 2011 at 2:34 PM

Those are tough choices! See if you can get your hands on both lenses and try them out. I have the Tamron 18-270mm so I know that is a great one. I don’t have PS and I only have Elements and LR. However, I feel like LR is WAY easier to understand. That is just me though :O) I couldn’t live without LR!! What type of camera do you have? That way I can help you figure out which remote to get :O) Remotes make life SO much easier :O) I’m so glad to hear you are tackling manual mode! I promise you won’t regret it!

I doubt I will be able to try out the lenses before purchasing one. I think my husband is planning on buying me one for Christmas. — Do you know what the major differences between Elements and LR are? — I have a Canon 60D.

You are right about not going back! I used to shy away from difficult photo situations, and now I like the challenge of it! Even when I don’t get it figured out, or to the quality I was hoping for. It keeps me learning and wanting to improve. I have learned a lot, but I also have A LOT to learn! I am really enjoying it. Enjoying taking photos of my family, and photos for my blog. I’m being stretched. :)

        Thanks for your help!

I don’t know a huge difference between the two because I never fully learned how to use Elements. I like LR because you can edit a ton of pictures at the same time with a click of the button. I have several videos on how I use LR if you would like to see it in action. It’s hard to find a remote that will work with the 60d but this one http://www.amazon.com/Canon-RC-6-Wireless-Controller-Digital/dp/B0037NX6JY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323410819&sr=8-1 has a comment saying it works with the 60d. Sorry, I’m not more help! I’m so glad to hear you continue to challenge yourself :O)

            Hi Christi,
Search ebay for “lcd 60d remote” or “rc-6 60d remote” depending on whether you want a wireless or more programmable corded one. I have both, both are cheap non-branded china ones, and work an absolute treat. i have not had any problems. in fact, we got robbed during the week and i have already ordered both again. good luck. ps. i have/had 60d -waiting for insurance to give me another one!

    Hi Courtney,
After seeing #2 on your list – through the lens camera necklace – I thought you might like this one. I have this and it is awesome! A nice little aussie brand, I am sure it would be super cheap to ship to you!
