I love the colors in this photo.
I would zoom out just a fraction so that you’re not cropping the top of his head.
I wouldn’t change anything else. Sweet photo, great expression you caught on his face.

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:09 AM

I love the colors too however I think I would of use a brighter color blanket to give good contrast!! Sweet picture though.

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:12 AM

What a sweet photo! I love the innocence you captured. I would have backed up about an inch to have not cropped the sweet baby’s top of head. I love how penetrating baby’s eyes are! Lovely capture.

Overall, really nice feel to the photo! His expression is super cute. I would have taken a little step backwards to get his entire head in the frame (while sticking with rule of thirds) and also tried to uncurl his little fingers (because baby fingers are just to cute and edible!). The color and tones are really nice, and good catch light in his eyes! Good work :)

Too funny. I had to follow up on your comment Ang as I agree with steping backwards a little, but I Love the feeling I get when I see the curled fingers! ;) Nice photo!

I love how you captured his expression off to the side! As an armature- one of the things I struggle with sometimes is cutting the tops of heads off. Very slight change- just a cm up or so. The exposure is perfect and focus is very clear in his eyes. Precious!

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:14 AM

What a sweet baby! Love the catch lights in the eyes but I think I would like him to be looking a little more towards the camera than that far off to the side. Cute pic though.

Great shot:). Looks sharp and the white balance looks spot on:) i love the use of light and shadows, great depth. I would smooth out the background as it distracts a bit from your gorgeous subject, and, although i like the composition, i would just always make sure to also get a shot thats the same but pulled back a bit further. Great job:)

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:16 AM

I love the picture because of the expressionon the face. I too, would’ve zoomed out a little more so the head was in the picture. I think a different color on the backdrop would’ve made it pop more. Maybe a baby blue or soft yellow.

    June 9, 2014 at 11:16 AM

Super cute photo!! The exposure is good and you caught great catchlights in the babies eyes. The eyes look sharp and in focus. The rest of the babies face looks a little soft. Maybe using a slightly higher appeture or coming from straight on so the face is on the same level of field would prevent that. Also this isn’t huge but maybe fading the blanket in the background in post processes to get rid of the wrinkles and dark lines. Overall good picture!

    June 9, 2014 at 11:16 AM

Love this! The catchlights are amazing, and his expression is wonderful. I would pull back a bit to avoid cropping the top of his head and his elbow. The skin tones look great. Good job!

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:18 AM

I actually like the blanket as the color goes well with the baby’s eye color. I would have zoomed out just a bit so the head would not be cropped and there was a little more room around the arms and maybe fixed the blanket to avoid the wrinkles. The baby’s skin looks nice and soft and I think the pose is just adorable.

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:18 AM

You have such great catch lights in this shot! I personally would pull back a little just so the top of their head doesn’t get cut off. That and a little smoothing of the blanket and you have a sweet image for mom and dad! P.s-Love the simplicity of this shot :)

Beautiful baby. Great clear focus on the eyes. The background is a bit distracting where there are folds in the blanket. These can easily be edited to give it a cleaner look. I love the expression you captured.

    Beautiful lighting!
I would have tried to get his second foot in the photos or more fingers. I love the expression you captured!

  • Rachel
    June 9, 2014 at 11:28 AM

What an adorable photo, the only thing I might have done differently is take one step back and to the right so it wouldn’t crop the baby’s head off and also to fill some of the negative space on the right side of the photo. I think you did a really great job capturing the light in the baby’s eyes!! Great Job!!

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:29 AM

Cute Shot! I would pull back the crop a little and maybe use a pastel color blanket. You caught a great expression. I would love to see it in B&W!

    June 9, 2014 at 11:29 AM

I love this little guys expression and I like the neutral color of the blanket. I also like the warm tones. It appears that this photo was taken super wide angled or taken too close for the lens used. His head appears huge almost as if it were pasted on afterwards… I would also like to see a little more in focus.. His feet and ears.. I mean it’s the details of these precious times that we wanna capture.. so to fix that I would have closed down the aperture a little… and then you get crisp details and not just an eyeball. Great phot though.

    June 9, 2014 at 11:30 AM

You did a great job getting the focus on the eyes. I agree with others, I would pulled back a little so baby’s head/elbow wasn’t cut off. Personally I like the simplicity of the brown blanket. Great shot!

  • Luana
    June 9, 2014 at 11:31 AM

I love how you captured well his eyes! I liked the light and tones of the colors. I think it matched with his brown eyes. I would have stepped back a little bit to not crop his head and give more space to show more of his arms but other than that, I loved his happy expression and simplicity of this shot. Well done!

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:32 AM

Love everything about this except, me personally, would make the fabric drop smooth in the background…kind of distracting ;)

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:39 AM

I absolutely love the expression you captured and the WB and color is wonderfully dreamy and creamy. I would crop it to a vertical head shot because I would want all the focus on that fabulous face. I find the one leg blurred in the background a bit distracting, and even the hands to some degree. Nice work, any mama would be happy with that shot.

    June 9, 2014 at 11:40 AM

As an beginner photographer I love the lighting and captured expression, this is something I’m struggling with, but I agree with the taking a step back to get his whole head. I feel the focus goes to his forehead instead of the amazing lighting and positioning you created!

  • Anna
    June 9, 2014 at 11:41 AM

    He is adorable! I love this, the expression on his face is so cute and I love the the sparkle in his eyes! my only critique would be zooming out just a little bit so that his head isn’t cut off. Overall though, I think it’s a beautiful picture! (;

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:41 AM

What a sweet picture! It makes me happy just looking at his sparkling eyes and sweet smile! Plus, you captured the catch-lights in the eyes perfectly! The dark fold in the blanket in the upper right corner is a bit distracting as it draws my eyes away from the subject. I would smooth that out a bit. And perhaps pulling back just a touch so as to not cut off the subjects head and elbows. His skin tone is perfect and smooth. You did an excellent job!

  • Erica
    June 9, 2014 at 11:45 AM

This is such a sweet photo! I love the facial expression that you captured. I would have zoomed out just a bit to avoid cropping the top of the head. The image is very crisp and sharp, and I love the catch light in the eyes! Very well done :)

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:51 AM

I love, love, love this photo! The colors in this photo are so beautiful! Only thing I could say would be to zoom out just a little so that you’re not cropping the top of his head. There is nothing else I would change anything else. Great photo!!

  • Tera
    June 9, 2014 at 11:56 AM

Great shot! It might be nice to have a little more color, maybe by use of a different blanket, so as to have a little more contrast. I also agree with others that pulling back a little to avoid the crop on his head would have been nice, but it still looks great as is having a close up of that cute face. Nice work.

  • Adrienne
    June 9, 2014 at 11:57 AM

Love that sweet smile, what a great capture!!! I would (as previously stated by others) definitely have pulled the shot back some so as not to crop his head at the top. But I love the neutrality of the shot color wise and the simplicity of it with no props. So I think overall great shot :)

  • June 9, 2014 at 12:04 PM

Hi! Thanks for sharing! I love this shot and the look on his face. Though several mentioned pulling the shot back, I think you should actually pull it in some more to really focus on the eyes. Overall great shot though!

  • June 9, 2014 at 12:06 PM

I love the blanket choice, as it’s soft and earthy, allowing the baby’s eyes to really stand out!
Even though I think you made the right choice as far as composing the baby on the left and having the gaze draw our eyes to the middle, I’m super distracted by the foot!
I think you rocked the head cropping – that’s exactly how I’d shoot it!

  • Schanelle
    June 9, 2014 at 12:07 PM

Love his look! I would have used a brighter blanket. I also love the unique rule of thirds you used. I love this picture and I bet it will hang on someone’s wall far a long time!

  • Jenny
    June 9, 2014 at 12:09 PM

This is a beautiful shot! I love the light in his eyes. I would have zoomed out just a little bit so his head wasn’t cut off, and his little elbows weren’t so close to the edge. I really like the focus point on his face and bokeh. Great shot!

  • Mary
    June 9, 2014 at 12:16 PM

The lighting is perfect. Great catch lights. Cropping the head more, a different cropping over all, could work. Or back up just a tad so that sliver of the head is in the photo. The color of the blanket makes the photo nice and warm. Good choice.

  • Rebecca
    June 9, 2014 at 12:18 PM

I love the simplicity of this photograph, so many baby photos are over the top these days with props and clothing, it is refreshing to see that sweet face and not have your eyes drawn elsewhere. Zooming out a tiny bit just to capture the blanket around the elbows as well as at the top of the head would be great and make this already beautiful photo that much more perfect. The colour chosen for the blanket really compliments baby’s hair and eye colour, great job :)

  • Heidi
    June 9, 2014 at 12:20 PM

His skin looks so smooth and baby soft – great job capturing that. I like that he is on the left of the photo, looking across the frame. Leaving some empty space over there makes me wonder what caught his attention. Since the color of the blanket makes the photo look somewhat monochromatic anyway, it might be a good candidate for black and white. Most of the folds in the background are fine, except the really deep black diagonal one in the upper right corner, which is a bit distracting. I am drawn straight the face here, especially his eyes. Great focus.

  • Enid Revious
    June 9, 2014 at 12:24 PM

Beautiful picture! I love how you arranged the lighting. The shadows are hitting the baby’s face at all the right angles and the catchlights in the baby’s eyes are amazing. The only two items I would do differently is arranging the blanket to be slightly more taut. I notice some folds in the background which on the right top corner are distracting. I would also angle the baby just a tiny bit more so that the baby’s foot is closer to the right side of the frame. I believe this would fill up the frame more and eliminate a little of the dead space there currently. I have read some of the other comments about straightening the baby’s hands to see little fingers and although I would agree doing that it would definitely look great but this baby looks around 3-4 mos and as a mother of a baby…getting the baby to uncurl fingers and leave them there long enough to take a shot may just be near impossible! At this age, the clenched fists may be the most natural thing possible! Overall great picture…definitely frame worthy!

  • June 9, 2014 at 12:47 PM

Love this! Love the eyes, love the focus, love the softness. The only thing I can say is maybe scoot back a tad to catch all of baby’s head. But really I’m just adding that in because I need to say something for improvement. The picture is beautiful!

  • June 9, 2014 at 12:56 PM

This picture is absolutely gorgeous! I love the warm tones of it, the skin color is awesome. As many others, I would have zoomed out a tad bit just to give him more space and add some balance with the empty space on the right (but still keeping the rule of thirds, ’cause you did beautifully with it here). That’s something minor, and his expression is so adorable that I don’t really mind the slightly “unbalanced” composition. And the focus seems great too (at least from what I can tell based on this size of picture), great job on that (it’s so hard with babies that age that wiggle constantly!! LOL)

    June 9, 2014 at 1:09 PM

Love the baby’s expression. Great focus and catchlights in the eyes. The lighting is so great that this one may look fantastic in black and white too!

  • June 9, 2014 at 1:10 PM

I’m going to agree with the above comments, just a slight pull back. Love the expression and light in his eyes!

  • Vanessa Seaver
    June 9, 2014 at 1:46 PM

I love the light and the babies smile. I would of stepped back and angled the baby where you could see both legs and feet. :)

  • Brandy McGhie
    June 9, 2014 at 1:58 PM

I love that the blanket and his eyes are both so warm and work really well together. I would have also backed up just a little to make sure the top of his head wasn’t cut into. Overall a very warm photo that really captures the innocence of a sweet baby!!

  • June 9, 2014 at 2:40 PM

I love this image!! His expression is fantastic and really shows personality. I would personally back up a bit and make sure the top of his head is not cropped out. Definitely a great picture!

  • Dixie
    June 9, 2014 at 2:58 PM

I like the lighting in this photograph. The light captures his eyes and baby skin beautifully! The only problem I see is the angle in which this was taken makes the baby’s head look large and the rest of his body look smaller, and with the shallow depth of field you can’t make out the rest of his body. I would consider a different angle and reducing the aperture size to include more of this precious little one. Lighting is perfect!

  • June 9, 2014 at 3:34 PM

Just love the facial reaction you captured. The lighting is perfect. Smoothing out the background (blanket) which of course is hard but would have brought more attention to your subject. Even trying different angles would have made the portrait a little more detailed. I love the blurred background and being able to see his one foot is a good angle.

  • Naomi
    June 9, 2014 at 3:47 PM

The facial expression you caught is awesome!! I would have stepped back a bit and maybe moved my angle as he moved his face to capture his face more straight on. The lighting is excellent & the focus on his eyes is perfect! Really beautiful shot!

  • Patsy Lander
    June 9, 2014 at 3:54 PM

Love the lighting and baby’s sweet face. I would have liked to see it with a little more room on the left and the wrinkle taken out of the backdrop. But the baby’s expression is wonderful and all in all it is a good shot!

  • June 9, 2014 at 3:54 PM

Love the fabric. I would zoom out a bit. Your cropped a little to close. Good job on lighting.

  • June 9, 2014 at 4:34 PM

Super cute picture! The color is great. I also think that a vertical crop would look good so that just the face and hands are in the photo. I love the catch light in the eyes and the expression on baby’s face.

  • erica
    June 9, 2014 at 4:56 PM

Beautiful shot, I love the expression. I would maybe have backed it up a tiny bit, not too much to get top of head, but keeping the composition you achieved. Love the colors, and softness, yet great focus! Great work!

  • June 9, 2014 at 6:04 PM

Such a cute picture! His eyes are so sharp w great catchlights which I think it often difficult. I would have loved his face moved to the center a tiny bit so the subject is not so much to the left side of the photo. I love the rule of 1/3 but I feel like it may be a bit more balanced that way. One thing to consider about the tight crop on the head is that if you want to print this in a canvas wrap, it will have to crop even more off of his head. I didn’t realize this until I recently printed a bunch of canvases. I have to work on getting more space on the edges now.

  • Melissa Kirkham
    June 9, 2014 at 6:26 PM

This is such a beautiful photo! I love the catch lights in the baby’s eyes. They look so alive and interested in whatever it is they are seeing. Their adorable little smile is wonderful too and really adds to the photo. It makes me think they’re watching their mom.

I think I would have cropped the photo a little farther back. For me, the crop is too close to the elbows of the little one.

I also like the shallow depth of field that you chose to use. It really helps draw your attention to the eyes and makes them pop!

  • June 9, 2014 at 7:41 PM

I love the colors- well everything! I agree with other, probably would have stepped back an inch, but I have to say that I do like the idea of cropping in a bit more too. Curled fingers and naked babe are just gorgeous!!

I love it! I think it’s perfect. I’m not one of those who think that it’s against the law to crop a limb or something. It’s a great image.

  • Alison
    June 9, 2014 at 9:07 PM

What a cutie! Love the depth and white balance. I’d like to see te background smoothed out and the baby just slightly more to the right of the frame as well as his head fully in frame. I love how you’ve left space to the right where he is gazing! So beautiful!

  • June 9, 2014 at 9:17 PM

I love this photo, and your clarity is great on that beautiful face, since it is not a head shot though i would have pulled out just a tad to include complete head of subject, but it makes you just want to kiss its checks its so fresh and clear and such a great shot.

  • June 9, 2014 at 9:58 PM

What an adorable baby! I love the catchlights you captured- eyes always draw me in! I’d prefer to see the baby’s face turned a bit more to the camera but I know this can be tricky with young ones. I like the depth of field you got in the shot. Really well done!

  • Terri
    June 9, 2014 at 10:30 PM

Cute Baby. I think his body should of been in focus. Being blured out makes him look incomplete.

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:03 PM

I love the colors. I to would have stepped back to not have cropped his head. I love the clarity and lighting.

  • June 9, 2014 at 11:28 PM

While I am sure you probably don’t want to hear about the head crop issue again i have to agree. I would’ve liked to see you step back and perhaps come around just a tad more on the face. That said I adore those chubby baby fists and his expression made me smile. I like the blanket as it is and overall would say great job!

  • June 10, 2014 at 6:03 AM

I absolutely love this! The catchlights are incredible – little one’s eyes catch your attention straight away. I love the facial expression as well – I almost feel like she is looking at someone doing a funny dance in front of them and that grin almost has a naughtiness about it. I agree about the cropping of baby’s head but I think it is almost balanced out by the fact that the elbow is slightly cropped as well. I would have liked to see the photo with a bigger depth of field as well so more of baby’s body was in focus for interest. The curled up fingers are too cute :) A treasured photo for sure!

    June 10, 2014 at 7:33 AM

Adorable baby. I love the expression you caught and I love the colors you chose. I don’t even mind that the top of his little head isn’t in the frame. Only thing different that I would like to see, is how it would look cropped as a portrait (vertically), leaving out his body. To me, his body distracts my eye from his precious little face. Wonderful job on the lighting.

  • Katie Wright
    June 10, 2014 at 7:58 AM

I love the lighting on his face and the catchlights in his eyes. I would have maybe pulled back a tiny bet, and angled a little more towards her face to try and eliminate the dark wrinkle in the background on the right. Overall though its a beautiful image and the expression on this little ones face is priceless.

Just an addition to other comments: the directional light here is just fantastic. Beautifully done.

    June 10, 2014 at 9:58 AM

    Oiy! Sooo adorable.
Love the sharpness and detail in his eyes. The rule of thirds was used perfectly.
The only thing I would of liked to see is his full head. If this were my baby, I’d want every sweet little detail on that cute head included in the photo.
Other than that, love it! :)

  • Kylie
    June 10, 2014 at 10:33 AM

The lighting in the photo is great. I wish it had a tiny bit more breathing room on the left side. A bit higher aperture could have captured his cute little booty too. I like the neutral color of the blanket. It could be framed in a great color to coordinate with any home decor.

  • June 10, 2014 at 10:50 AM

I love the angle of this! Although, I would have stepped back just a little bit to get the baby’s entire head in the frame. All in all this is an adorable picture! Not every picture is 100% perfect, but I think you got close with this one :)

  • June 10, 2014 at 11:51 AM

I absolutely love the happy expression you have captured int his image! If I changed anything, I would suggest backing up a little bit just so that you capture more of the child in the image. His head is cut off, and I think if it was all visible in the shot it would be nice. With that said, there weren’t any limbs chopped off so it might just be my preference. Great warmth in the photo and catch lights in his eyes!

  • June 10, 2014 at 2:43 PM

I love how his eyes are clear and really draw your attention. I like that he is in the left third of the photo but I think zooming out just a little would look relly nice so his head isn’t cropped and there is a little more blanket under his hands. Overall a great photo though.

  • June 10, 2014 at 3:49 PM

Beautiful colors & awesome capture of the catchlight. I would have filled the frame with his entire face – maybe by just a few inches zooming out/backing away. Overall, great image – made me smile (how can you not?? Ah, that expression!!).

  • cynthia
    June 10, 2014 at 6:18 PM

I love the photo – color and the infants expression. I’d prefer the background to be more seamless (the upper right corner a bit distracting as it draws your eye there) and a darker vignette around the edges.

    June 10, 2014 at 8:52 PM

Love this! Love the eyes, love the focus, love the softness. The only thing I can say is maybe scoot back a tad to catch all of baby’s head. But really I’m just adding that in because I need to say something for improvement. The picture is beautiful!

  • June 10, 2014 at 11:51 PM

What a sweet capture of an adorable baby. I love the focus on and brightness in his eyes. I do agree with prior comments about making certain that all of the baby’s head was in the frame, and would love to see just a little more room on the left side of the photo as well. I also agree that the wrinkle in the background on the right pulls my eyes away from your cute subject. Your exposure and white balance is spot-on, though! Nice work.

  • June 12, 2014 at 7:11 PM

Oh my goodness!! SUch sweetness! I love the beautiful catchlights in his eyes! Next time, I would back up a bit so you can get his whole head in the frame and not cut it off. It’s a little thing since the focus is mainly on his eyes in the photo! they are the spotlight! The wrinkle in the blanket doesn’t catch my eye as much as the area on the top left of the photo. It’s just dead space. Your exposre is great and your white balance is too! Great job!!

  • June 12, 2014 at 7:50 PM

Such a cute picture. Love it. I would have maybe pulled back just a bit to get all of him in the picture but it’s still a great picture. Great focus and lighting.

  • Robin
    June 13, 2014 at 3:29 PM

Lauren, absolutely adorable photo! You’ve really captured this little one beautifully. I think the exposure and white balance are perfect. As others have mentioned, I would like to see the very top of baby’s head, and the clipped elbows. That is absolutely all I would change. The colors, creamy skin tone and focus on the eyes are spot on. Great job!!!

    June 15, 2014 at 6:28 PM

I just love this photo! Great job finding light, great focus and great timing! I agree with others; just scooting back a tad would have helped to avoid losing the baby’s head, and maybe also using a lighter colored blanket. A light green, maybe? It is still and incredibly sweet photo; you absolutely captured a special moment, and I feel that when I look at the picture. :)

this is adorable i love the sparkle in the babies eyes, overall great photo, one this i would have liked to have seen is the cute baby rolls of the body more (who doesnt love a baby roll) Great expression on baby’s face :)
