One of the most challenging things about photographing children is getting them to look at the camera with a natural looking face. They either don’t want to look at the camera or if they do, they end up giving you some kind of crazy or mad face. I have learned to just go with it some days. It is more fun to photograph your kids in their natural environment. Something to try is to not have their faces in the photo.
Some great reasons to leave the faces out:
1. Sometimes it tells a better story.
2. Takes the stress off of you and your kiddo to capture that “perfect” shot.
3. You can let your kid just be a kid.
4. When your little one (or husband) makes a crazy face you don’t need to worry about it.
he he he! we do this often too! ;-)
Great tips! I love the photo with the book and feet in the foreground and faces on the background.
Thanks for sharing!
Wow, I LOVE this. The idea, and the execution. Beautiful photos :D
The ballerina is beyond adorable!
TOTALL agree! I love this post. I’m trying to do the same with my kids (not be a camera weilding maniac that is – LOL!) So much less pressure for everyone!
Whoa – did you see this is the weekly challenge for Iheartfaces?? Spooky…
Ha ha! Yeah, I wrote this before I saw the theme. Perfect timing huh??

This was a timely post for me. I’ve been frustrated with my gbaby who is turning two in a few weeks. I’ve been fretting over the fact that she just won’t cooperate. I can definitely use these ideas shared here. Thanks V
