I recently read an awesome article in the Clickin’ Moms e-magazine Click. One of the photographers talked about spending a rainy day indoors with your kids and a camera. Give a point and shoot to your child. Come up with a theme to help spark their creativity. After you have taken all the photos, upload them, put them on a page with the letter or number they represent. You can either print the pages off on your computer or send them to a printing company like Blurb.
This would be a great idea to do indoors or outside. It would also be a great tradition to do it each year summer or spring.
A few other ideas for photography with your kids and creating a book:
- ABC’s – photograph something that starts or looks like a letter
- Numbers – find toys grouped in number sets
- Colors – photograph items full of different colors – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet and so on
- Child’s Name – similar to the ABC’s just use the letter’s in the child’s name
- Favorite things – toys, food, colors, games, pets, and family members
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the e-magazine while you are there!! It’s full of some great tips!

These are fantastic! My daughter loves taking pictures, I think we’ll try ABC’s and Colours =D Thanks for the tip!
I so have to get a camera for my son! He’s been asking for a while and pretends with a toy one, but the toddler camera’s are about the same price as a cheaper adult camera, so I’m trying to hold out till he can look after a real camera.
This is a great idea. I’ll have K try it out.
I love these ideas! Going to put together a ‘project’ for my son based on this. Thanks :)
Oh good!! Let me know how it goes!!
These are great ideas. My daughter loves using a old digital point and shoot. She’s 5 but she handles it pretty well. I think it might be fun for her to have a “project”….maybe A,B,C’s….
