You can say so much with images by using purposeful light, perspective and exposure. As a mom to three children I am always trying to figure out the best way to capture these fleeting moments. I want to look back at these images years from now and remember not only the moment but the feeling as well. Lets take a look at a few ways you can achieve this through perspective.

No.01Peeking in
This is one of my favorite ways to shoot those uninterrupted moments. No directions were given, just an honest moment to peek in on. I like to try to shoot through something to achieve this. A door, furniture, leaves on trees, anything that will give you that ‘peeking in’ on the subject feeling.

No.02From above
Shooting from above is great way to simplify a scene, especially if you are in a messy, cluttered or unattractive room. It is the perfect way to draw attention to your subject with little distractions.

No.03Down low
Getting as low as possible is a really great way to include your surroundings and give some scale to your subject. Try different angles from below and even try setting your camera on the ground to shoot. It is also a perfect perspective to get some fun detail shots.

No.04From the hip
This is a fun one to try after you already have gotten the shot you want. Some of my favorite images have come from shooting from the hip. There is something about having my camera up to my face that always changes the mood for my kids…especially for my 9 year old.
Kids sometimes get the idea that they are supposed to perform for the camera. If my children start getting goofy, I like to put my camera down, wait for them to continue on with whatever they were doing and then I will start shooting from the hip to capture the moment.
I love to take the same scene and try multiple perspectives to see what I like most and what best captures the moment. So what are you waiting for? Go get your camera and practice a few of these!
