Photography Promises

I’m a huge fan of photography goals. In fact, you can read mine here – Photography Goals 2015.

Yes, I do believe it’s a good idea to have goals to work towards, I love the idea of making little photography promises to myself.

I promise to pick up my camera to capture the moments even if there is clutter and bad lighting.

I promise to not get frustrated when my kids don’t behave or aren’t in the mood to be photographed.

I promise to leave my camera at home sometimes so I can live in the moment.

I promise to pick up my camera more than I want to, especially if I’m in a rut.

I promise to not spend all my free time reading about photography that I never get out and put it into practice.

I promise to edit more than I did last year.

I promise to find other photographers to encourage on their journey.

I promise to not get caught up in comparing my work to others but focus on how far I’ve come this year.

I promise to try new things even if I find they aren’t my style, at least I tried.

I promise to get in more photos even if I don’t have make up on.

In an attempt to be in more photos, I handed the camera to my daughter and let her snap a few.

What promises would you add to the list?

This isn’t officially on my photography goals for this year, but I promise to push myself out of my comfort zone when it comes to shooting people outside my immediate family and NOT psyche myself out! I’ve had a few people ask about doing portraits and have refused because I don’t feel I’m ready. I need to make myself take the plunge just for the experience of doing it.

Love these Courtney! I have a few of these on my list as well…especially the part where I should only compare my current work to my earlier work and not the photographers that surround me.

One of my big ones this year is to see the beauty in our chaotic lives. It’s there. We just have to look.

When you hand your camera over to a child or hubby (bless his heart!), do you first choose the settings? Do you teach them how to BBF or spot meter?

I choose the settings but my hubby has shown in interest in learning this year. I do show them BBF and how to put the focal point on me. It was cute seeing her little hands try to push the BBF and the shutter :)

I promise to let go of fear. Fear of not succeeding, not being ‘liked’, fear of judgment, fear of selling what I do best. I promise to be confident, in my work, in selling myself and my products, in myself.

I promise to keep working on my photography skills in low-light settings to produce some quality shots that I can be proud of.

I’m a football/soccer mom and the games I attend are packed full of action in tough night-time, outdoor lighting conditions and I struggle to get bright, non-blurry, crisp photos that I would like to share with other families and their athletes. Perhaps you have a tutorial on this that I’ve missed? I’m doing alright on daytime action shots; just need some serious help with the night-time photos at the football and soccer fields with the artificial lighting. (My equipment includes Nikon D5000, Tamron 18-270mm lens, and my new Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR FX lens.) Thanks!

The key to get those sharp photos is to keep your shutter speed at about 1/500 if you are shooting athletes. This may mean you need to bump your ISO way up to make up for the lack of light. Best of luck!

To take individual pictures with each of my kids. Take pictures of anything that I am thankful for but will forget about someday, like the way my daughter bites her younger while coloring. AND push myself to do more creative things instead of coping images on pinterest.

I promise to be brave and be in focus in what I love: photography. My word for 2015 is “in focus”.
I promise to study a lot to give my best as a photo retoucher.
I promise to be patience and persistent to do it for living.
I promise to improve my skills in every photography area.
I promise to have my photos in order and take photos of my family and ME (ja) this year and print them.
I promise to design a calendar to sell for 2016 with some of my landscape pictures :)
I think that’s all for now folks ;)

I normally don’t like new years resolutions, but these promises work well!

I promise to ask people I don’t know if I can take their picture. There are so many wonderful faces out there. I want to capture their beauty and expression.

Courtney, I’m resisting the urge to pin this photo of you to Pinterest! Hahaha!!! I’m sure it would be VIRAL!! :)
