Remembering 9-11
Lifestyle

I realize it isn’t September 11th in the States yet but it is here in Japan. I am struggling to find the right words. Ian has been watching a lot of shows reflecting on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. However, it is still too fresh and I can’t handle watching those shows. I still cry each time I see the towers fall.

I’m sure we will never forget where we were when our lives were changed forever that September morning. I was in my junior year of college and walked in the door of my apartment to be greeted by my roommate with a terrible look on her face. We watched in horror as the second plane flew into the tower. I tried calling my family but like everyone else found that the phone lines were so busy. Once I finally got a hold of my mom, I was told that my dad (who was still active duty in the AF) was under lockdown at his work. After hours of trying to contact Ian, who was at the AF Academy, I found out he was under lockdown as well. I was terrified. 9/11 is my brother’s birthday so I was already planning on going home and remember driving back to my parents house, about 2 hours, just crying and trying to understand everything that was happening.

I remember sitting in my priest’s house with my friends as we listened to President Bush address the nation on the days that followed. I knew our lives wouldn’t be the same.

Please take some time today to pray for those who lost loved ones that morning. We have not forgotten.

No, I have not, and will not. Thank you Lord for our Armed Forces who are serving, and protecting us as well.
(i know this is off the subject, but I like the picture, too.)

We watched an NBC show last night and I was crying through much of it. I THINK that I remember how bad it was, but watching that show and reliving it made me remember how horrible each part of the day was. So many heroes lives were lost then and now because of it. I won’t forget.

I was in college too and I was the one who turned on the TV only to see the horror happening. For the longest time I wasn’t able to understand what’s going on, just as the rest of the world. I think everyones life changed since that day, regardless of nation, religion, or skin color. Too sad.

I, too, just sat down to write my blog post for tomorrow and was at a loss for words. You did a perfect job conveying your feelings and how close to home it hit for you personally. Beautiful picture as well- there’s so much emotion in it.

Such an amazing post Courtney and that photo is such a perfect photo to remember this day. I am currently writing up my post for 9/11 and had to take a break. It’s hard to reflect back on that day without a lot of emotion and remember the horror we all witnessed. We will have to talk about the Academy sometime. My brother was attending the academy that year too. He was a senior. Maybe Ian and him know each other.

I remember getting ready for work when I got the call to turn on the TV from my wife. Minutes later, the second plane hit. Then, the towers fell. The whole rest of the day was a shocked blur as we learned of the crash of United Airlines Flight 93 and the other plane that crashed into the Pentagon. As we learned more about the Flight 93 crash, we were glad for the circumstances that surrounded that.

We remember those who lost their lives and those who tried to save lives today. They will not be forgotten.

Thanks for sharing, I agree with others. That’s a wonderful picture of tribute!
