Cool photo, I like the way the tunnel makes a natural frame for the silhouette. I like that the silhouette is off to one side of the entrance and has a casual teenage feel. The positioning of the entrance though is slightly off, I would like it to be dead center (side to side) or noticeably off to one side. I like that it’s in the top of the photo though and the tunnel fills the majority of the frame, maybe slightly more breathing room at the top though. Maybe the tunnel could have been slightly lighter on the walls to bring out the texture of the brick work and grunge. I would have maybe gotten down lower so the silhouette was placed more in the entrance. I like that you’ve converted it to B&W. It’s got a really interesting feel to it.

I love, love, love how the tunnel frames the image and draws your eye to the subject. And I like it off center. I want to see a full body shot. I might have gotten down lower…even on my tummy to get the entire subject in silhouette. I think that would have eliminated the wall as a distraction near the subjects head. I also like how you chose black and white to limit distractions and really put my attention on the subject. Very nice.

I love the composition. I love that the opening to the tunnel is off center. (Though it would work in the center as well.) I feel like he gets lost in the foreground darkness, so I probably would have waited until he was a few feet further away. The black and white treatment is really the way to go here. A really powerful image. Nicely done!

I really enjoy participating in these critiques because I think we are all really learning so much from each other! I think this is a cool shot. I love the tunnel drawing in the eye in to the background area. I love the black and white conversion. It adds a depth that I am not sure would be there with color. The only thing I personally see that I would do differently is to lighten the foreground a bit more. I find myself wanting to see the subject’s feet in the silhouette. For some reason, I think seeing the feet would make the subject seem more grounded. Other than that, I love where the subject is in relation to the tunnel compositionally speaking.

This is a wonderful image! I think the fact that you converted it to black and white really makes it stronger. I would have preferred for his legs to not be lost in the shadows. By getting on your belly (like mentioned above) and waiting until the subject was closer to the light would have helped. I would also prefer the tunnel to be centered in the photo so your subject was a little more off centered. The frame of the tunnel is fantastic and makes it a great example of a golden spiral. I like the added bonus of the basketball. Thanks for submitting a photo. I hope these critiques give you something to think about but remember to stay true to your vision!
