the coloring is perfection! The pose in wonderful, the only piece of advice I would give is to run a high pass sharpen as the imagine is snot as crisp as it could be :)

Isn’t she just precious! I really like that she is holding flowers and her dress coordinates. Soooo cute.

One thing I notice is the White Balance seems to be a little off. Her skin tone looks a little to red and yellow to me. However, it could also be my computer screen, as we just got our computer back from the apple store following maintenance. It also appears a little overexposed. Did you meter off the skin? Increasing the SS and lowering the ISO (if able) would have improved the overall exposure. However, I know it is hard in the bright sunlight.

I really like the crop and the setting provides a nice simple backdrop, so my eye is not distracted, but drawn to her eyes, then the flowers. Very nice.

Thank you for the feedback. I sincerely appreciate it. My photography is just getting off the ground…I have so much to learn!

I feel weird critiquing this shot, since I have so much to learn myself. But I know I would want as much feedback as possible so here you go.
I love the shot. I think the concept is great and the execution is good. I agree with the white balance. It is off a bit. Instead of using auto white balance, try setting to sunny, cloudy, etc. It is a pain at first, especially when you forget and start shooting without adjusting it, but well worth it. It takes one less step off in post processing, too (always nice). I know that in portraiture it is very trendy right now to have the overexposed look and I can see where this is really close to it, but it kind of falls into the blown category to me. I would recommend upping your f-stop to around the 4 range. This would have gotten her face and dress sharp while keeping the background out of focus, not mention reduce some of the light coming in and correcting the highlights. But I honestly do not know if you wanted to keep her face and dress at a softer focus. So that tip might be irrelevant. In that case, than a shutter speed adjustment should correct the highlights. So that is my critique of a shot that is really pretty good. You did great and you are taking a huge step putting your work out there for others to critique. Keep it up. :)

This is a lovely picture! The colors of the dress are vibrant and I like how the background is blurry and simple. I really like the effect that her looking down while holding the flowers creates. Some of the colors look a bit off to me. The petals on the daisies seem a bit too bright white and her skin tone seems a bit washed out. I think adjusting the white balance while shooting or playing with the temperature and tint in post processing may help this. I am still learning about white balance so I am not sure of specifics. I love how this photo captures the innocence of her age and portrays the moment so beautifully. That is what photography is all about! I think we can always learn more about photography. You certainly have a good foundation as your composition is really beautiful :). Thank you so much for sharing and letting us learn with you!

First of all, you are so brave to volunteer for this! Secondly, the picture is just adorable. I love the composition and I love that its candid and natural looking and I love the flowers.

One thing I noticed, and I could be completely wrong about this because I can’t zoom into the photo, but it seems that the sharpest, most in-focus point of the picture is on her bangs instead of her face. Since the focal range is narrow at wide apertures its nice for the focus point to be right on the eyes, even if they aren’t looking at the camera, so her face is nice and sharp.

I also love the coloring of this photo as well as the vignetting–the vignette really helps draw attention to the center of the photo!

This is a very sweet photo and your concept is lovely. What a cutie you have! I do think your white balance is off here. Also, I think the image, overall, is a little blurred. I would work on focusing and skin tones. You got some great tips to fix these things above! I think you have a great start here and I look forward to seeing more!

    Jaymi,

Thanks for the comment. In reading these it encourages me to keep working on my photos and that is one area where I really struggle. Sharp focus and toggling focus points.

This is such a sweet moment you captured of your daughter with the flowers! It looks like the focus fell on her hands instead of her face. You may want to move your focal point on her eye next time. It looks like it stayed on the center of the image. The white balance looks a little off. It’s a little too warm. If you use Lightroom, I would take the eye dropper tool and place it on a neutral area like her dress to help you get a better WB. The crop looks a little tight as well. I would have taken a step back if possible. That way it would give her some room in the image. I’m a huge fan of vignetting but it looks a little heavy in the top two corners. Maybe pull that back just a smidge. I really like the aperture you choose since it helps pull the viewer into your daughter and not get distracted by the background. I also love the location! Is that a barn? I love the lines and texture of it!! Fantastic!! I also really like the pop of white from the daisies against her black dress! Thank you so much for submitting a photo! Remember that this photo should be true to your vision. Keep that in mind when reading our critiques :O)
