I love so much about this photo! Rule of thirds is great, love the bokeh on the tree, love that it’s black and white and love the expression on the little girl’s face. What I might have tried: converted to black and white using a red filter to brighten her skin tone, and possibly added a little more vignetting, but overall this is a great shot!

Love the black and white conversion here! Like PP mentioned, I’d like to see just a little more depth/detail in her face (it appears just a little bright). There are blown spots in the background, but they’re not too distracting. The crooked horizon is bothering me a bit, but I love how the lines and framing of the windows leads to her face. Rule of thirds is great. I might have taken a teeny step back to get her whole head in the frame. The detail in her furry coat is wonderful! Love the wind blowing her hair, too. Very natural moment that you captured!

Her eyes – WOW! I’m immediately just drawn right into her eyes. Although I’m not an expert on B&W conversion, this looks really great. There are only a couple things that I noticed – First, the crooked horizon and building. Both of these lines are a little bit distracting. Second, I would have liked to see more of her…the crop seems just a tiny bit close. Other than that, love the bokeh, love the wind through her hair, and composition. You should be very proud of this shot! Just beautiful and so very natural.

I love this shot! When first looking at it I was immediately drawn into her eyes–what a great facial expression. I also like the way the sun lights up her hair. I agree that the the composition and the bokeh enhance the impact of the shot too. I also would have straightened the horizon, especially with the building in the background. Since the street is slanted, the windows are slanted too, which distracts just a teeny bit. I also would have liked to have brightened her skin tone just a little too. These are very minor points–it is still a wonderful portrait. Thanks for sharing.

I really love that she is not smiling. What a genuine moment. She’s adorable. I think this works great as black and white. I would straighten the horizon, and reduced the noise in the shot. This is really beautiful. Well done!

Great picture! I really like the black and white conversion. It has lots of dimension. The only thing I would have done different is to straighten the picture in editing so that the sidewalk goes straight across instead of at an angle. You did a great job with showing definition on the child and blurring the background.

what a beautiful picture! i, too, am immediately pulled into this sweet lady’s eyes. the black and white conversion is lovely for this shot. i would also straighten the horizon and maybe pull back a touch or shift the camera up a bit so that her head isn’t cut off on top. i love, love, love the bokeh coming through the trees on the left!
my own curiosity has me wondering why your ISO was so high b/c it seems like it was a bright day.
this is such a nice picture, and that is a gorgeous little gal. you did a fabulous job of getting such a crisp image of her with the background blurred…not easy with little ones! i love that you captured such a real moment…thanks for sharing!

I love the eye contact and expression on her face! It’s so hard for me to get eye contact from my daughter so when I do, it’s a huge win! I also like the bokeh (“housekeh”!) and I think the black and white conversion is nice. Though others have mentioned it, the crookedness of the street doesn’t really bother me, although maybe it could be straightened a bit. It looks a tad noisy, lowering the ISO would help with that.Also I would have probably tried to get more of her in the photo (take a step back). Overall I like the photo, I am very drawn in to her eyes and I love the black and white conversion.

Love the B&W processing. Lovely bokeh, too! If I had been shooting this, I would’ve slowed my shutter speed (no slower than 1/125 is usually best with kids) so that I could lower my ISO. That would decrease the noise we see in the background. It’s a wonderful portrait though. Great composition!

The black and white processing on this photo is spot-on, in my opinion. As far as what I would do differently, I try to always keep my ISO at 400 or lower to make sure I get the best image quality….you had a seriously fast ss, so the ISO could have come down to 400 or 200, which would mean less digital noise when you make prints. I’m sure the client loved this picture, because it captured the personality of your little model so wonderfully. I like the background, especially if its her house!!
