Excited about our Have You Met series where I showcase YOU, the photographers of our community. We had over 400 photographers apply for the series in less than a week. I can’t wait to showcase the talented photographers. There is a mix of hobbyist and business owners as well as full-frame and crop sensor users. This may be my new favorite part of the site.
This post contains affiliate links. Thanks in advance for supporting Click it Up a Notch. I am not longer accepting applications for this series.

No.01Tell us a little about yourself and your photography journey.
I’m like many and proud to say I’m a mother with a camera. I have 3 beautiful children and I’m a wife to a wonderful husband.
When each of my children were born I believed I could achieve those cute newborn picture. Haha not that easy. When my second child was born a soon got my first dslr camera. It wasn’t till my third child was 3 months old and I had a light bulb moment. I’m going to be a photographer. I’m going to learn how to make beautiful pictures and learn how to use my camera. I would put my camera into manual mode sometimes, but I didn’t fully understand what I was doing.
So my obsession started. I did an online photography course. I bought my first lens 50mm. I practiced, practiced, practiced. Watched tutorials, read books, did workshops, did mentorships in business and photography. I just have not looked back and my passion just keeps growing and growing.

No.02What is the best advice you received so far on your photography journey?
When I first started I was lucky my first photography event was in my state. One of the speakers said something about understanding light. Once you really understand light you can do anything and you will see everything so differently. That was 3 years ago. Back then I thought I got it. But wasn’t till recently I truly understand what she was talking about. I did a mentorship with talented Leah Robinson from Horizon within and she help me see the light. Before doing that mentorship I was seeing and using natural light in one way really. But now I’m not afraid of really using light in many different ways and light is everything to photography.

No.05Are you currently doing any photography projects? If so, what?
Well I started my first 365 day project in Dec last year. I’m not going very well. It’s defiantly been a challenge. Although it has got me taking more lifestyle pictures of my children, which was the point of starting the project. A year in the life of the Lofts. Instead of just giving up or starting over, I decided I just need to get 365 images this year.

No.06If you could only use one lens for a year, which would you choose?
That’s so hard as I love all my lenses. But if I had too I’d choose my 50mm. Just because it’s a good all round lens. Thats my logical answer.
If I was being daring and not thinking about clients.I’d choose my lensbaby sweet 35.

No.13What's the strangest thing you carry in your camera bag, and why is it in there?
I have a wedding horse shoe thing that a friend gave me on my wedding day almost 2 years ago. It has stayed in my bag ever since. It’s been in there so long I cant take out now. I’m kind of superstitious like that. It’s my good luck charm.

Hi Kristal
Thank you for your kind words.
In that picture the kids were playing with some Cattail. It was about the time when they go all fluffy. I caught it in some beautiful light.
Meghann,
I love your responses about mentoring under someone. I just got a Lensbaby Velvet 56 myself. Would you mind if I joined you on a 30-day challenge? I’d love the company to try it. I love your black and white images, especially the one with the girl and the toy horse.
Best,
Tricia
Hi Tricia
I would love some company. What a great idea. I haven’t started yet, so It would be great for a push. How should we do this? I’ll have to go and see what this new Velvet 56 does. I haven’t done that yet.
