Love the subject matter! The only thing I would do is have shot it from and angle, the trunk takes up too much space and weights the picture to the right. But seriously…how cute is that kid!

I just love this! I love how bright it is, great color. I kinda get lost on what your focus should be, I know it should be the girl but the trunk over powers her a bit, maybe change your angle. Otherwise great photo! I love bright images :)

I love this picture, how adorable! Next time I’d try to not cut off the the trunk and make it a wider shot.
    Again, so beautiful!

This is so cute! The depth of field is awesome on this. Bokkeeehhh!!! :) It took me a second to figure out what she was reaching for, so maybe her having the crown in her hand would be a little less distracting than trying to find it in the grass (which kind of hides it) Coloring is great too. Great ode to the end of summer :)

Darling little girl, love the colors and loved the surprise that was hiding in the grass at her feet. My first thought was perfect, but if I have to find something…I questioned the fact that there seemed to be equal distance in the area above her head, as below her feet. Then, I looked in the grass and saw the tiara that she was reaching for! That did it for me. Love love love the photo. I, personally, wouldn’t change a thing.

I love the idea of this shot – I think if you had taken a step back to get the whole trunk in the frame the composition would be better. Think about the Rule of Thirds when composing a shot. Also, maybe try having your subject sit completely on the trunk (feet and all) to keep her attention. Excellent use of open shade :)

I love the background and color if the trunk. You did a wonderful job capturing the light in her hair. At first glance I missed she was reaching for a crown (adorable), so perhaps cropping a bit of the trunk out to focus our eye on the girl. Very sweet photo.

I love this. I think if you had pulled back and had more “background” the trunk would not feel so heavy. The color is beautiful!

I love everything about this: the composition, the lighting, the mood, the story. I wish that the tiara stood out a bit more but otherwise perfect!

Love the perfect colors of the subject and the life style shot. I would have taken this picture as a landscape layout (wide) rather than portrait (tall). in order for the image to be more balanced. But I love the bokeh background which makes the stripes of the outfit and the cute blond curls stand out even more.

  • September 8, 2014 at 10:38 AM

I like your camera settings. Everything is nice and sharp that does not need missed and the background is nice and blurry. Personally, I would have tried to tie the props in a little more. Maybe instead of a crown, use a sun hat, scarf or umbrella to tie in to the trunk. Or shoot this scene alongside a little walkway. Love how you captured her in the moment and decided for her to go barefoot! Precious little girl!

Love the colors! I think making it a wider shot would solve the issue that the trunk feels too big. I also love the sunlight you capture in her hair. Great shot!

I love the light and how it hits the top of her head. I would have pulled back more. This way instead of her head being the center focus you could have put her in the left third of the shot. This way you could have included the entire trunk instead of chopping it off on the right side. Personally, I would have put a little more negative space between her and the edge of your shot. Also, the viewer can barely see the tiara, so maybe have her playing with it or on her head. This little girl is precious, and I love the colors of her dress. Good job!

I LOVE this picture!! The colors are great, the subject is adorable. I would have just put more focus on just the girl and less on the trunk. otherwise, it’s perfect!

  • September 8, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Love the idea. I would love it even more with more negative space. I feel like it’s to pulled in and the trunk is more of a focus than the girl. But overall it’s precious!

I love the DOF and the light captured at the top of her head. I would have just tried for a wider shot – it looks like it’s composed more 50/50 than the rule of thirds – but we know how fast those little ones move!! A sharp, vibrant shot, and she’s adorable.

I think this is a beautiful shot! I love the exposure, background-I love the light and shadows just behind the subject, and the trunk is a beautiful prop! The only improvement I would suggest is moving her back to avoid the little hotspot on the front of her hairline-which I’m sure wasn’t there when you had her sitting up, and moving back a bit to include the entire trunk… Otherwise, I think it’s quite lovely! :)

This photo is precious! I love the lighting and the blurred background. The only thing I would change is that I missed the tiara in the grass until I looked closer. It is so small I wasn’t sure what she was reaching for until I looked very closely. I adore that she is barefoot and the grass is perfectly in focus and the trunk just makes a nice seating for her.

I would spot heal that mark on the suitcase other then that great pic

  • September 8, 2014 at 2:13 PM

Other than to agree with the posters above, I don’t have a great deal to add. This is a beautiful image. The colors are lovely, her hair is a perfect halo for her sweet face. I do think I’d like to see it it pulled out a bit more, so that the trunk is not cut off on the right – it feels a little jarring. I actually like the straight-on viewpoint, and so I think that expanding the field of view is probably a better way to correct that, rather than changing the angle to the trunk.

Overall – absolutely beautiful – great moment!

I like that you’ve caught a really natural moment – I’m really not a fan of overly posed kids. I agree with the other commenter that it took me a second to see the crown that she was reaching for on the ground so perhaps having that more prominently or giving her another related prop to play with like a boa or something so there’s more than just the crown? I say you can never go wrong with “clean” edit, but maybe with the crown and the trunk if you going for a “play pretend/imagine” scene you could do a soft, slightly hazy/dreamy edit as an alternative. I love the way her hair blows in the wind and the DOF is perfect!

    Such a lovely little girl!!
I love the colours and warmth of the image and the DOF made for some beautiful Bokeh. I’d love to see this image pulled back to show more background and take a little “weight” off the trunk she was sitting on. I feel a little like it dissects the image and interrupts the flow.
Immediately I asked myself what the girl was looking at or reaching for, you know that moment when you’re watching your kids play and you can’t help put wonder what’s going through their little mind! I wish the tiara wasn’t so lost in the grass though. I think this would be a good image to include in a collage that tells the story of the girl and her tiara. Add more shots from different angles, etc.
As a mom I would absolutely love to have this image

I love the picture, very cute and starts to tell a story, the crown gets lost and trunk over powers, I love what you captured with the girl.

Such a lovely picture! I think overall it’s great, but maybe cropped a little too tightly? I maybe would’ve just taken a step back or two and maybe changed the angle ever so slightly. You’ve done a fab job!

Great color and exposure! I would probably have zoomed out a bit/stepped back/cropped less in editing so that the far right edge of the trunk is not cut off. I also would probably have shot from a slightly different angle–perhaps from above. You’re framing is good, though. She has space in front of her which is always desirable!

Great props and dress. There is a sunspot on her head, maybe a non-destructive dodge / burn layer could fix this. My mantra when photographing children is ‘two steps back’ as I too shoot with a tight in-camera crop, it would have been nice to have had a wider picture. I like the story it is telling about her dropping her crown (which is more obvious if the watermark was not on the crown).

I love this pose! Very interesting and cute image. I agree with previous posts that I would have focused moreso on the girl and maybe a tad bit of saturation to make colors pop :) Otherwise, such a beautiful picture and wonderful light!

Exquisite! Perhaps just a second later the young girl would have the sparkling tiara in her hand?

I think the trunk or the treasure chest was not properly places on the center of the frame because it was cut out on the end part on the right of the frame but look how cute the kid is! I love how the wind puts on some effects to the hair and I just love how the background was blurry although it has not much of a bokeh effect but I like it I’ve always loved blurry background but all in all it’s awesome! great shot!

Beautiful little girl. Love the picture. The colours work well together. The lighting is perfect. I would have taken the picture at a bit of a different angle to get the trunk in completely. I didn’t notice the tiara at first….I might have waited a moment longer until the tiara was in hand. Great shot though!

Love the colors, the DOF, and the brightness of the photo. However, it took me awhile to see what she was focusing on. Maybe next time try for a different angle, or crop,in tighter to,focus on the crown more. Sometimes I feel like we need to break the rule of thirds rule to capture the perfect shot.

I adore this picture – it is where I hope to be someday – just starting out and to master focus on the image has me baffled. This is just a beautiful picture.

So many things I love about this photograph…the way the light hits her hair, her positioning on the trunk, the bokeh. If there’s anything at all that I would have done differently, it would be to have pulled back a bit more so as to get the entire trunk in the shot and a little more space to her back. But the photograph is beautiful and totally works for me.

  • September 11, 2014 at 6:39 AM

Love love love this picture. A princess reaching for her crown. Not sure what the color is on the front of the trunk by her hand. Fix that and you are perfect. Great shot.

  • September 12, 2014 at 7:40 PM

Love this picture. The little girl is precious. The things I wouldve done differently is to have taken a wider shot, not so close up. This would be beautiful in black and white.

Beautiful picture with cute subject matter. Perhaps make the crown more obvious and maybe a tiny bit more light bounced up on her face. Great photo that you should be proud of. I agree with April, would also look great in black and white.
